History of CSHP
In 2018, CSHP was proud to celebrate the 70th anniversary of its founding. CSHP has benefited from a long legacy of distinguished leadership (see list of past presidents below).
In November of 1948, CSHP held its first meeting at Yale-New Haven Hospital. The meeting was presided over by John Zugich, the 1st CSHP president, 4th president of ASHP, and Director of Pharmacy at Yale New Haven from 1947 to 1951. In the first years, CSHP meetings where held exclusively in New Haven with meetings rotating between Yale-New Haven Hospital and the Hospital of Saint Raphael. In the 1950s, the CSHP meeting sites began to rotate around the state, and a joint meeting with the Massachusetts Society was held as well. CSHP continues to hold meetings at Connecticut hospitals and schools of pharmacy to this day.
CSHP was formally incorporated as a non-profit association (501c6) in 1981. Many individuals contributed to building the Society into the organization it is today. Some notables include our past presidents, many of whom continue to be active today.
